In the sprawling city of Valdera, nestled under a permanent, starless black sky known as the Ebon Veil, life continues in eerie twilight. The Veil isn’t just a quirk of nature—it’s alive, a sentient shroud cast over the city centuries ago by an ancient being. The Veil protects Valdera from a devastating curse that once ravaged the land, but it comes at a cost: no one may leave the city, and every generation, the Veil demands a mortal offering to maintain its protection.

Lyra Deren is chosen as the latest sacrifice. Resigned to her fate, she prepares to be swallowed by the Veil, only to wake in a shadowy, opulent realm hidden beneath it—a world ruled by Soryn, the enigmatic and hauntingly beautiful creature who controls the Veil. Soryn reveals that the sacrifices are not killed but transformed into servants of his realm, bound to him for eternity. Lyra is different, however—he cannot claim her fully.
